Lilly Pads and Whoopsie Daisies - Exhibition
A exhibition of blossoming colour and life by budding artists Jemima Anne Neilson. A local talent, Jemima grew up in Charters Towers attending Columba where she first discovered her favourite artworks, Van Gogh’s Irises, Almond Blossoms and Sunflowers and Monet’s Water Lillies. Jemima lives with Fragile X Syndrome and is a two time cancer survivor. She is brave, curious and imaginative and loves music, gardens, tea parties, stories and fairies. She has had wonderful guidance and inspiration from two very special art teachers Stuart Whitby and Cheryle Dempster who were equally unafraid of her challenges and very supportive of her growth and talent as an artist. However it was at home, by the pool, in view of the sunlight glinting off the water, our beautiful flowering trees and flower gardens that Jemima was really inspired to paint what she loved. On her canvases you can see her vision of vivid colours, dancing, sparkling, dappled light, freedom of uniform shapes and hints of movement. Overcoming her fine motor challenges with typical painting tools, she has expiremented with many implements to achieve her visions. Her paintings are created over days, sometimes weeks, in layers, not entirely planned but grown much like the nature that inspirers her.
