Recent Australian and Scottish landscapes by David Wilkinson. "Put simply, my art is a means of indulging and unloading my deep love of being out and about in the natural environment. I choose to paint scenes from places I find especially beautiful, atmospheric and awe inspiring. Painting these scenes makes you study them all the more closely, getting even more out of the experience of being there, and reliving the moment back in the studio. When painting, I am transported back to the place, can soak up the atmosphere of being there again in my mind, and would typically jump at the chance to go back and soak up some more. The ancient age of some of the settings is very much part of the atmosphere which influences what and how I choose to paint. The feeling of the setting drives how I paint. On my recent trips around Australia and the North Western Scottish Highlands it was the colour, the heat and the light as well as the geological setting that influenced the paintings in this exhibition."
